A Note From Mrs. Fox
I have always loved flowers and botany and my lifelong hobbies have been gardening and then drawing and painting the flowers I have grown. Over twenty five years ago, when I discovered silk painting, it was a complete fusion of all my hobbies and I have been painting on silk ever since. The total concentration which is needed to paint a flower design on silk is my “zen zone” and I love it: I hope this is evident in all my work.
The scarves have striking graphic motifs, which are influenced by my love of gardening and botanical illustrations. I never use guides or stencils and every design is original. Every scarf is completely unique: all the scarves are lovingly hand painted and are not mass produced.
I have sold scarves globally and taken commissions from as far as Hong Kong, Paris and Australia. If you love the scarves but can't see exactly what you want then contact me and I can design one specifically for your needs.
Please note that prices include registered UK postage and all sizes are approximate. For international shipping, please contact me before purchasing.
Each scarf is stretched on large wooden frame, and I draw a freehand design in silk outliner. The design is then painted using professional French steam-fix dyes. Depending upon the complexity of the design these processes can take several days. When I have finished the design, I steam the silk in an upright steamer for several hours which permanently fixes the colour and also leaves the silk soft and lustrous. After washing to check for colour-fastness I finish the seams.
I use different types of silk, from the finest chiffon to the heaviest velvet, depending on what my customers want. My personal favourite is a mid-weight crepe-de-chine which is lustrous rather than shiny and has a lovely drape quality.
